The I/O expansion units are used to host plug-in modules from the I-87000W range of Data Acquisition modules.
Each unit comprises a power module and a back plane with several I/O slots. They can connect directly to a host PC or a PAC (programmable automation controller) such as the XPAC, IPAC Embedded Controller units which can run programs using a number of operating systems. The latest RU-87P (RS485 Interface) and USB-87P (USB Interface) products feature Hot-Swap and auto-configuration.
The 8KE4/8KE8 Ethernet Expansion Units devices are similar to the 8430/8830 Main Control Units except that they have a faster processor but no RS485 expansion connection. They are designed to just connect to a ethernet point. Unlike the other expansion units though, they support both 8k Parallel and 87k Serial Plug-in units.
Backplanes for connecting to CANopen or Devicenet Networks are also available.
